WuiT #027: SPOON de CHOP

Filed Under: Street Performers, Expat, Yungkang Park.

It is always very lively during the weekends on Yongkang Street in Taipei. There are always long lines for the world famous Din Tai Fung Dumpling House to Ice Monster's mango slushy ice, not to mention the bookstores, cafes, and local stationary and novelty shops filled with unique characters. It is certainly one of the best spots to spend your weekends for the people of Taipei.

When it gets close to 7:30 on Saturday evenings, crowd starts to gather at Yongkang Parks, some are just curious bystanders, and some are devoted fans of SPOON de CHOP. The band’s set up in completely unplugged, which means that you have to get a little closer to be entertained. The lead singer Rei is from Japan, and the banjo player Joe is from Indiana. They met in and shared their love for music, so they decided to perform in the park on Saturdays. Their music includes Mandarin, Japanese, English, and Taiwanese folk songs.

SPOON de CHOP is definitely not your typical street performers waiting for a generous donation dropped into their guitar cases, no way! This is a stadium rock concert for them! Rei gets the crowd really psyched up as they clap and sing along with the music, and if you are in the mood to show your appreciation, an ice cold 6 pack from the convenient store is always welcomed. At the end of the show when the band is nice and buzzed from the excitement and the free beers, many stay after to take pictures with their favorite members and ask for autographs.

If you are looking for something fun to do this coming weekend in Taipei, we will see you here at 7:30.

CNR and Shout Out

For the members of Forumosa.com, here is your hero!
Sean has given us so much important information for animal care that it was quite impossible to fit them all into the show, we decided to separate them into different audio files, they are very educational and worth listening to. If you are thinking about owning a pet and understanding the necessary precautions, or perhaps you would like to know more about the CNR method that Sean spoke of “Catch-Neuter-Return”. Also, here are some links to help you get more involved with this great cause.

WuiT #025: Jae Chong

Hip-Hop Music is taking over the world! And is currently under heavy attack. We interviewed a talented and popular music producer Jae Chong, understanding that music really makes the world go around, regardless if you’re Korean, American, or Taiwanese. Don’t you think this is a funny picture of Jae? All the pictures we got from him were Jae with big celebrities, standing next to his expensive car, wearing a lot of bling-bling… Huh, the life of a music producer…

We met up with Vivienne at a local coffee shop close to her work, we gave her the address and she showed up right away. She said in the interview that she came here to study Chinese and she never had any problems getting around in , but she did have one complain though, the movie titles in the Chinese newspapers are mostly in the Chinese translation only, and sometimes has nothing to do with the original title of the film. For example, the official translation for “Pulp Fiction”(1994) in Chinese is “Black Color Chase Arrest Order”.

【What's up in Taiwan】做比較,點下圖看清楚:

What's up in Taiwan做好,也許有一天,聽眾多到有【iPod與台灣熱】的現象,那我們大家就發了!
